I’ve spoken with Jocelyn about the case in detail, and it is, in my opinion, an egregious case of racial discrimination. It seems the officers “felt threatened” when trying to “deescalate” the situation, said the mayor, a former police officer himself. A gun was recovered from the car later. Relatives were at a loss as to how or why a gun would have been there. Police were at a loss to explain what caused them to feel threatened, opting to instead to release a statement later.
