We say goodbye to the year 2015 this week, and hello to 2016, and in the Big Asian Package Blog retrospective, I share with you how the year looked from my perspective If I had to sum up the 2015 statistics in a sentence, it would be this: BAP blog readers love nudity.
That’s neither a complaint nor a judgment. I started BAP Blog to fill the gap left by society’s desexualization of Asian men. I started it to provide a place to talk about this in earnest and for Asian males to have a voice that said something other than what people heard from mainstream media and Internet forums and comment sections, largely troll-conquered echo chambers these days. So in this way, I’m glad readers engaged with the masculinity of Asian men so directly.
Norm Yip Interview
The top viewed individual posts or pages include my interview with Norm Yip, a talented photographer and painter who expatriated from Canada to Hong Kong. Norm Yip’s two-part interview, “Asian Men Are Beautiful,” gave readers insight into the compositional considerations of a professional photographer. (Part II)
Norm was gracious enough to supply some high quality photos which continue to be readers’ favorite media on my blog to date.
When photographing the human body, I tend to use a strong contrast between light and shadows tempered by very soft lighting and diffusers. In shooting Rick, we started out with a full set of clothes for him to wear, and progressively moved to the point where he was nude. A proficient contemporary dancer and performer, Rick improvised a set of moves from which I found these two images to be the most poetic, balanced and symmetrical. For a more severe look, I opted to reduce the contrast between Rick’s body and the stark white background by…
Alvin Tan Interview
Adult film actor and recent asylum seeker from Malaysia Alvin Tan’s two part interview was a close second. Alvin surprised us all with his bold thought process and articulate nature. He also gave us a peek at what goes on behind the scenes at a porn shoot.
The biggest restrictions were: 1) legal and 2) social. In both countries, even pre-marital sex itself is considered abhorrent. For Muslims in Malaysia, pre-marital sex is grounds for prosecution. Islam as a religion and the conservative Asian culture in general tend to demonize sex. In fact, when I started an exhibitionist blog with my ex-girlfriend back in 2012/2013, we were swiftly prosecuted for “producing pornography” (which was a crime — hell, merely consuming pornography is also a crime), even though we weren’t generating revenue at that time and simply did it out of exhibitionism and adventurism.
Scenes are often but not always shot continuously. I will try my best to share this from the male talent’s perspective. The hardest hurdle at first is usually for the male talent to be able to get a “usable erection” (an industrial term) to start the scene (usually a handjob/blowjob scene), which is why the male talent needs to be very reliable in being able to get and keep “good wood” on command. This is why, while many men would like to fuck hot women on camera for money, far fewer actually have the ability to do the job. Most men wouldn’t even feel comfortable getting naked in front of other men, which is the easiest step.
The Adult Links from the Navigation Menu
Number three on the list were the three pages devoted to listing sites and media with the sexual appeal of Asian males.
Asian Man in Full View (mostly Tumblr blogs and Instagram accounts with hot Asian guys.)
Asian Men in Adult Film (pornography with an Asian male lead.)
PG-13 Asian Men (somewhere between the above two.)
About Me & Cocksure, My Penis Story
Curiosity about the blogger and the “About Me” page was number four on the list. (That’s my lucky number!) As far as those kinds of pages go, it’s fairly standard, but thanks to you readers’ interest, I felt sort of interesting, a little flattered, and got a boost of self confidence, prompting me to start a new venture in writing erotica. I shared some pictures, but the vanity in my persona and image (not wanting to appear ton narcissistic) kept me from sharing more. You can always ask.
“Cocksure” parts one and two, detailing my own penis story, were written in this afterglow of confidence.
Black Women in the Blasian Narrative
The number five most popular post was a piece I did promoting the Blasian Narrative, an AMBF site. It drew attention from black women whom I believe suffer from a similar distortion of their sexuality at the hands of the mass media and often the public at-large.
The same social sexual violence that happens to Asian men, it happens to black women. The narrative and image of a black woman in America or Canada is a grossly contorted version, a caricature, of one of a few uninventive archetypes.
This is embedded in the public mind, it is evident nearly everywhere, and none of this racist public image is worth repeating. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, take in a look at any comment stream following an article relating to black women. As if the phenomenon needed more proof, you can take a look at virtually any statistical study on racial out group / interracial pairing or marriage.
Runner up & Honorable Mention: Proliferation of Asian Male, White Female Pornography.
