I posted some pretty heavy stuff earlier, and it can be psychologically difficult to read. Some readers sent email with warm messages. Thanks for that, by the way; I was touched.
I feel like changing the mood some since, as you all know, the boy in the story turns out to be, more or less, okay . You should know that I am not suffering from emotionally unresolved issues.
The ever interesting brain has the ability to disengage harmful fight-flight-freeze responses (including anxiety) from traumatic memories through something as simple as retelling / reliving the experience and then making new associations by a conscious thought or physical conditioning.
Each retelling, was an opportunity I used to decrease the emotional consequences and fallout. The final steps to clear my heart and my head are a post or two unto themselves – I will leave it for another time.
So no more about eating a gun… here is some lighter stuff.
