“Welcome!” I said.
J. Hoss invited to this leg of his trip in California a woman he befriended in Warsaw. The extra bedroom in my flat is their homebase as we travel to Carmel, Tahoe, Nevada, San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles, San Diego, and wherever else we feel like.
I took her bags to where J. Hoss had already settled in. After pleasantries, her face lit up remembering something. She came back from the guest bedroom with a portfolio tube, the kind art students and architects carry around.
“J. Hoss told me you liked science fiction,” said the Warsaw woman.
“Yes, it’s true,” I said.
“Here. For you..” she said, unrolling the gift…
Wow. I was effusively thankful, mumbling, as my eyes were transfixed, checking out the graphic, the typeface. She’s only staying a week too! What a thoughtful gift for the host.
So, uh, any other Polish travelers need a place to stay? Ooh wait, I could use a Miyazaki poster, callers from Japan?
