The statement, still in effect, was published over 60 years ago, and it wasn’t put together by some ne’er-do-well blogger who talks about his dick too much either. The UNESCO folks treat this as an uncontroversial truth. Scientists opposing, working fervently in the Hadamarian spirit, have produced nothing convincing. As Sussman points out, “similar statements have been published by the American Anthropological Association and the American Association of Physical Anthropologists, and an enormous amount of modern scientific data has been gathered to justify this conclusion.”
Biological determinism is a great way to try to justify racist behavior. I mean, at least it’s logical. In our case here in America, it’s not just that the racist notions pervading many American institutions and minds are incorrect, it’s that it was a mistake to even take up the question. In the spirit of the “redneck viral video,” it’s time to let go America. No one is “better” than anyone inherently. Comparisons of people in that way are pretty distasteful to start with.
